TASTING NOTES

“The beautiful label, traditional brown bottle, and the wine within, all have an allure. It's the richness and depth of the tannin structure - velvety and ripe, the suppleness on the palate, the savoury thread with coffee grounds, pepper, bitumen and yes oak but everything in its place plus its heady perfume with florals and red plums.”95pt James Halliday

ROCKFORD

Robert O'Callaghan, owner of Rockford Wines, is one of the heroes of the Australian wine industry. His wines are an impassioned statement of what he believes the Barossa stands for: They are a philosophy, a statement of place and of people. He produces the style of wine that has made the Barossa famous. Established in 1971, Rockford's vintage shed is equipped with winemaking equipment that is 50 to 100 years old. And most of Rockford’s grapes are bought-in from 30-odd ‘grower-friends’ whose low-yielding, ‘dry-land’ bush vines are up to 140 years old. This setup allows Rockford to carry on old winemaking traditions and craft wines that capture and reflect the vineyard's characteristics in a timeless fashion. While these are some of the most sought-after wines in Australia today, it is not the rarity value that makes them so special - it is the fact that when drinking a Rockford wine, one is drinking a piece of Australia's wine history.
