Torres
Mas Plana, Penedes 2012

TASTING NOTES

"Lashings of dark blackcurrant fruit, menthol and camphor are evident on the nose. Very impressive and luxurious on the palate, showing extracted and concentrated black fruit with spicy oak. It has a tight structure, and a touch of sweetness on the finish. The grippy tannins need a bit longer to fully evolve and integrate, but undoubtedly this is a big success for the area." Decanter

Torres

Although the family business was founded in 1870, it was Miguel A Torres who turned the business into a global wine giant.

Miguel A Torres is not only a qualified Oenologist, but a very well-travelled and experienced entrepreneur with a vision. Some Spanish in the 70’s and 80’s even thought this man who planted more international varieties than local vines was the evil incarnate. The Torres simply just let the market answers their critics. Temperature control and small barriques maturation in the winery? Without this man, many modern Spanish wine region like Torro, Ribero Del Duero or Rueda wouldn’t even exist.

Even though Miguel had passed on his empire to his grandchildren. This Decanter man of the year continues to contribute important research papers on vineyard management and campaign tirelessly to stop climate change. The Torres is also the first to come up with the idea of setting up PFV- now a prestigious organization composed by some of the leading wine making families in the world
